A Fun-Filled Nursery Sports Session with Liam Whiting @ Little Footsteps.
As part of our continued commitment to introducing young children to sport and physical activity, Liam Whiting led an engaging and imaginative nursery sports session designed to develop movement, coordination, and teamwork.
An Energetic Warm-Up
We kicked off the session with some exciting warm-up games to get everyone moving. The children used their imaginations as they travelled around the space like their favourite animals. They explored moving in different directions while stretching up high, crouching down low, and experimenting with different speeds.
This playful start helped the children warm up their bodies while also encouraging creativity and confidence in their movements.
Practising Balance and Control
Next, the focus shifted to developing balancing skills. The children were challenged to carefully place cones on different parts of their bodies, beginning with their heads. They showed fantastic focus and determination as they tried to keep their cones steady while moving.
It was great to see the children concentrating so hard and celebrating their successes as they improved their balance and control.
Working Together
We then moved on to a partner activity that encouraged teamwork and communication. Each child chose either a ball or a beanbag and had to find a partner who was holding the opposite item.
Once paired up, the children worked together to practise passing and throwing their equipment to one another. This activity helped them develop sharing skills, coordination, and cooperation while having fun with their friends.
A Space-Themed Cool Down
To finish the session, we brought the energy levels down with a creative cool-down activity. The children became astronauts, imagining themselves putting on their space suits, boots, and helmets before preparing for lift-off.
After blasting off into space, we ended our adventure by moon walking back to the classroom, making sure to land safely after our journey.
Building Skills Through Play
Sessions like this show just how powerful imaginative play can be when combined with physical activity. Through movement, balance challenges, partner work, and creative storytelling, the children were able to build important physical and social skills while enjoying every moment of the experience.
It was a fantastic session, and the children showed brilliant enthusiasm, teamwork, and listening skills throughout.
